The double Formula 1 world champion, Fernando Alonso, will attempt to claim the famous Triple Crown. Even though it is unofficial, both drivers and fans place great importance on it.

To obtain this honorary title, a driver must have won the legendary Monaco Grand Prix, the mythical 24 Hours of Le Mans, and the 500 Miles of Indianapolis. For now, the Spaniard only lacks this famous American race to achieve it, having won the Monaco Grand Prix in 2007 driving a McLaren and the 24-hour Le Mans race this year in his Toyota.

Fernando Alonso might have perhaps claimed the Triple Crown if, in 2017, the Honda engine in his IndyCar hadn’t failed while he was battling for the victory.

It is therefore still with the association of McLaren that the double Formula 1 world champion will attempt to take his revenge in 2019 and to become only the second driver to achieve this Holy Grail after Graham Hill in 1972.

Tired of the top category in motorsports, Fernando Alonso takes on a significant challenge. This delights the one nicknamed “the matador” who really needs a change of scenery: “For some time now, I have specified my desire to achieve the Triple Crown. I had an incredible experience in Indianapolis in 2017 and I knew I had to return if the opportunity presented itself. I am particularly happy to return with McLaren. It has always been my first choice if the team decided to do it, so I am thrilled we decided to continue. It is a tough race and we are going to face the best. So it will be a huge challenge. But we are racers and that’s why we race.”

Recall that Alonso will continue his endurance championship program in parallel, still with Toyota.
