Chevrolet will power McLaren at Indianapolis in 2019
Always with the aim of long-term involvement in IndyCar, McLaren has confirmed its partnership with Chevrolet for engine supply next year.

If Fernando Alonso particularly appreciates America and IndyCar, the same cannot be said for the Japanese engine manufacturer, Honda, which not only forced him to retire from a large number of Formula 1 races, but also made him retire from the Indianapolis 500 while the double world champion was fighting for victory.
It is therefore with the aim of winning the triple crown that McLaren teams up with Chevrolet, which has achieved 33 victories and 3 constructor titles since its return to the American discipline in 2012.
This is not the first time that the two brands have signed a partnership. Indeed, during the 1960s-70s, the two achieved no less than 40 victories, making them the most victorious team of the time.
An alliance that undoubtedly echoes the small event organized by McLaren and Chevrolet, exchanging their respective drivers to test each other’s vehicles. Thus, Fernando Alonso was able to test the Chevrolet Impala Nascar while Jimmie Johnson tested the 2013 MP4-28 with a 2018 livery.
The recent president of McLaren IndyCar, Bob Fernley, sees Chevrolet as a possibility to be at the forefront: “Our partnership with Chevrolet is a key element of our plan for the Indy 500 in 2019. As a winning engine, Chevrolet’s engine puts us in a strong position to compete in this extremely challenging event. We have quickly established solid working relationships with the Chevrolet team, who are absolute professionals, committed to the challenge and true racers.”
