This season, Masashi Yamamoto will have the heavy task of supporting two teams. On one side, Toro Rosso, which is entering its second year with the Japanese engine supplier, and on the other, Red Bull, which is hungry for victories and performance.

Thus, it is a crucial year for Honda, which must prove after all these years of pain that it can compete with Ferrari and Mercedes but especially beat Renault. For now, 2019 is looking promising for the Japanese engines, which did not experience any reliability issues during winter testing.

This new position for Yamamoto is not a leap into the unknown since the Japanese was previously the general manager of Honda Motorsport. He will be accompanied by Toyoharu Tanabe, technical director at Honda F1, and will take on his new duties on April 1st.
