He is one of the achievements of German designer Hermann Tilke. Created in 2004, comprising 16 turns, the Shanghai International Circuit has hosted the Chinese Grand Prix since then, without exception. Held in October until 2009, the race now takes place in April, before the European leg.

Often spectacular, the 15 editions already contested have their share of highlights. Among them, Michael Schumacher’s last career victory in 2006. Another major event was the stoppage of Lewis Hamilton’s McLaren in the gravel trap before the pits in 2007, costing him valuable points… and the world championship title at the end of the season, against Kimi Räikkönen’s Ferrari.

Varied, the Shanghai International Circuit offers a true challenge to drivers, with 16 curves (9 right and 7 left), five slow turns, and a first sequence shaped like a snail that keeps tightening between turn 1 and turn 3. There are many overtaking opportunities, and Daniel Ricciardo would certainly agree. Aided by a strategic pit stop under Safety Car conditions, the former Red Bull driver overtook one competitor after another before claiming victory in the previous edition. To refresh your memory, take a lap around the circuit with Daniil Kvyat, Toro Rosso driver, who finished third in 2016!
