Crowned IndyLights champion in 2018, the young Mexican driver crosses the Atlantic to head to the Old Continent. Indeed, announced as the new driver for the Austrian firm, O’Ward seems to have the ability to land on his feet with this new career trajectory. Despite his title last year, a crucial lack of sponsors prevented him from securing a full-time position, and he had to settle for a partial program in IndyCar with Carlin. The Monterrey native will drive starting from the Indianapolis Grand Prix under his new colors, marked by the Winged Bull.

However, it will take a little while before seeing O’Ward at the wheel of a Formula 1 car. At only 19 years old, the Mexican will have to continue racing in one or more championships if he ever wants to join the premier category of motorsport.

The main party involved wanted to thank Red Bull for the trust placed in him: « It’s a great opportunity for me, naturally every race driver looks closely at F1 and would give anything to be world champion. Joining the Red Bull Junior Team, which has provided this F1 opportunity to so many drivers, is fantastic for me. »

We can see in this new recruitment a desire from the Austrian beverage brand to continue expanding in America and to keep promoting non-European talents.
