Vettel: « I had no chance! »
For the second time this season, neither of the two Ferraris finished the race on the podium. A critical situation within the Scuderia that still hasn't claimed a win.
The Spanish Grand Prix was not favorable for the two Ferrari drivers. Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc had to settle for 4th and 5th place. A nightmarish situation for Scuderia Ferrari while their main rival, Mercedes, secured another one-two finish, the fifth in as many races.
Despite its high speed in fast corners and straights, the SF90 seems to be beaten by the German car in slower turns. If Ferrari has become the benchmark in engine manufacturing, it’s the star-branded company that has the best chassis, by far!
Best Ferrari driver in Catalonia, Sebastian Vettel could only finish in fourth position. Starting third, the German attempted a very daring overtaking move at the start, which only resulted in a flat spot on his tires, significantly compromising his first stint.
Finally fourth at the finish, the four-time world champion was barely concealing his frustration and disappointment in the paddock: « Apart from the first corner, I had no chance of winning. I had a flat spot on my front tire which made me lose a lot of time. We tried to put more pressure on the tires at the end of the race but it didn’t work. We need to try to see the positive and understand what happened. The next races are coming very fast, we need to stay focused on our work and I’m sure it will come. This weekend is clearly a step back in terms of pace, the Mercedes are far ahead but that’s the way it is! »
