Out in Q1, Leclerc has “no words” to explain his underperformance
Charles Leclerc was dismayed as he got out of his car at the end of Q1. The Monegasque will start 16th tomorrow for a race that promises to be very complicated.

It’s a major disappointment brewing in the streets of Monaco. The local hero, Charles Leclerc, did not make it past Q1 in qualifying and will start from 16th place tomorrow.
The confusion was evident in the Ferrari camp, and the Monegasque couldn’t explain what happened: “I have no words. It’s hard to accept. We clearly had the performance to be in Q3. Throwing away a qualification like that is really unfortunate,” said Leclerc after Q1.
Ferrari’s tactical error is glaringly obvious. The team chose to keep Leclerc in the pits, believing his progression to Q2 was secured. This misstep backfired, and the unfortunate local driver will start from the back of the grid tomorrow: « I haven’t had an explanation from the team yet, but it’s not easy to accept. Tomorrow, a more than challenging race awaits us. Surely, the weekend is ruined… »
