Official: Gasly and Giovinazzi penalized on the Monaco GP grid
Pierre Gasly and Antonio Giovinazzi were penalized for blocking Romain Grosjean and Nico Hülkenberg during qualifying.

The narrowness of the Monaco circuit played tricks on Pierre Gasly and Antonio Giovinazzi this afternoon. The Red Bull driver and his counterpart at Alfa Romeo were penalized for blocking Romain Grosjean and Nico Hülkenberg, respectively.
The incident between the two French drivers could have turned into a tragedy according to Romain Grosjean, who admitted he was very scared of harpooning the Red Bull and sending it to the moon. Gasly was indeed slowed down at the Casino corner while the Haas driver was approaching at full speed behind him. The accident was narrowly avoided, but as a result, Grosjean ruined his Q2 and will start only 13th tomorrow. Gasly, on the other hand, receives a 3-place grid penalty and will start 8th.

The same mishap happened between Nico Hülkenberg and Antonio Giovinazzi. The latter was thus penalized for blocking the Renault driver on his fast lap and is also penalized by 3 places on the grid. He will start from the 18th position.
