Grosjean and Gasly do not want to relive their 2018 French GP

After last year's disappointment when Pierre Gasly retired and Romain Grosjean finished just outside the points, the two French drivers want to do better for this new edition of the French Grand Prix in Formula 1.

It was at the start that the French Grand Prix for the three tricolor drivers on the grid last year was decided. A wheel strike by Romain Grosjean on Esteban Ocon’s Force India and a collision between the latter and Pierre Gasly’s Toro Rosso dashed all hopes for the French contingent with a disappointing 11th place for the Haas driver and retirements for the other two.

This year, only Romain Grosjean and Pierre Gasly will represent their country at the start, and both men do not want to relive the same misadventure, like the Haas driver who is determined to capitalize on his positive results in Spain and Monaco: « Last year was a very good experience. I really enjoyed my stay at Le Castellet and the support from the fans. I can’t wait to return this year. I hope for a better result, as last year was not the race I wanted to have. So, let’s hope for a good weekend and a good race. » notes Grosjean, rather optimistically adding: « The upgrades have worked well since Barcelona, and I think they work well everywhere. France will certainly be a circuit where aerodynamics will be more important, more so than Monaco and Montreal, so yes, it will be a good test. Again, however, our main goal is to make sure everything works, which also means tires and so on. »

For Pierre Gasly, last year’s bad race experience already seems forgotten, and the Frenchman approaches this new home weekend with ambition behind the wheel of a Red Bull capable of reaching the podium: « It’s a really special weekend for me, so I’m really excited to be on track with all the fans and with extra support. I’m fully focused and determined to get the best result possible. It would be the perfect time to perform well in front of my local fans. Many people are coming to support me, which makes the weekend special. There are good vibes and a special atmosphere. The Paul Ricard is a circuit I really like because I’ve had very good results in the past. I raced there for the first time in 2011 in F4 and I won. Going back this year with a Red Bull, in a competitive car, excites me and I’m ready to give it my all! » concludes the Rouen native, who will have a stand dedicated to his colors at the Beausset corner.
