Gasly’s Bold Strategy: “The race will be difficult”

A few hours before the start of the race, Frenchman Pierre Gasly revealed his strategy consisting of two stops. While the Red Bull driver did not indicate the composition of the stints, there is no doubt that all tire compounds will be used.

Questioned on how to approach the race, Pierre Gasly knows he will face a challenge in the afternoon.

The heat is scorching on the Paul Ricard circuit, and the tires are sure to suffer.

Probable strategy: A stint on softs, then mediums before switching to hards.

Starting on soft tires, the Norman announced that he would make two stops. The two-stop forecast by manufacturer Pirelli suggests, after starting on soft, a stop around laps 5-8 to switch to medium tires followed by a second stop around laps 22-25 for a second set of medium tires.

On the other hand, and unlike the Italians’ plan, Pierre Galsy only has one set of medium tires left, which is worn. The probable strategy, therefore, after starting on softs, is a scheduled stop before the tenth lap to switch to medium tires, hoping they will last until laps 18-22. At that point, hard tires should be used to reach the finish.

Depending on the condition of his tires and the traffic, the task proves to be complicated, with a regular attack needing to be managed by the young Frenchman to hope to take advantage of this strategy. Aware of this observation, Pierre Gasly confirms it, “The race will be difficult.”

Equipped with two sets of medium tires, his formidable teammate will likely be on a different strategy, making use of this tire advantage. Let’s hope for the rest of the season that the Norman will know how to optimize his different strategy.
