Austria – Performance of the French-speakers: Gasly and Grosjean without grip, without solutions!
After a spectacular race, Charles Leclerc ceded to Max Verstappen after leading most of the race. Meanwhile, Pierre Gasly (7th) and Romain Grosjean (16th) experienced a much more complicated race, struggling with grip.

Pierre Gasly: 7th (8th on the grid)
Another very difficult race for the Norman driver! After a disappointing qualifying session, finishing in a meager 8th place, Gasly was forced to battle with mid-grid cars, with Kimi Räikkönen’s Alfa Romeo and Lando Norris’s McLaren as his main adversaries.
The observation was confirmed: it was only after several attempts that the Frenchman got rid of the Finnish veteran, taking full advantage of the DRS. Not without difficulty: « I struggled with the traffic at the beginning of the race; I spent a crazy amount of time behind the other cars! » notes the main party involved, disheartened in Parc Fermé.
Alas for him, Gasly never managed to find a flaw on Norris’s papaya-colored car. The explanation? « I pushed too hard after the pit stop. As a result, it destroyed my front tires. I had blistering on my tires: it wasn’t the best possible management, which complicated my race. »
The tricolor driver finishes in 7th position, sandwiched between Norris’s McLaren and Sainz’s, while his teammate takes first place, a lap ahead of him! If Helmut Marko found Gasly’s performances unacceptable before this weekend, we fear his next statements! Definitely, the 2016 GP2 champion cannot escape his vicious cycle of poor performances! In the championship, the Frenchman remains 6th, but at this pace, will he be able to keep his seat?

Romain Grosjean: 16th (11th on the grid)
Despite a good pace in qualifying, even lower than Magnussen’s, Grosjean struggled in the race. Starting 11th on the grid, the Haas #8 driver experienced a very difficult start, dropping him to 15th place. On a one-stop strategy, Grosjean then complained throughout the race about a severe lack of grip and a total lack of pace.
Naturally, the former Lotus driver acknowledges that his current situation is difficult, just like his team: « it’s really hard to understand where the grip has gone! I absolutely didn’t have any in the first laps. It was a very tough race, with no balance, I fought as much as possible. We are working on this problem, we will find the solution, but it might take some time. »
A bit like in 2018, the campaign is a nightmare for Romain Grosjean, with just two points scored in nine races. Yes, the Frenchman is still waiting for his standout performance!
