Imbroglio between Haas and Rich Energy

Since its arrival in F1, Rich Energy had played the card of provocative communication. Entangled in a legal battle over its logo, it announced that it had terminated its contract with Haas.

It feels like we’re back in the mid-80s to 90s with teams supported by more or less eccentric owners or sponsors. While Gene Haas has proven for decades to be a serious player in motorsports with his teams in Nascar and F1, he still finds himself with a rather embarrassing partner.

Or rather, was located. Indeed, Rich Energy, its title sponsor, suddenly announced on Twitter that it had terminated its contract due to the team’s poor performance, after an admittedly disastrous Austrian Grand Prix (16th and 19th).

But even with such a media appearance, caution is advised. Indeed, such a high-profile partnership could only be finalized with a properly signed contract. It is thus interesting to note that the team waited until the following morning of this announcement to issue a simple statement in which Günther Steiner, the team’s director, merely reminds that Rich Energy is still currently their title sponsor and that he will not make any further comments. All the equipment has thus already arrived in Silverstone still bearing the energy drink’s name. Romain Grosjean and Pietro Fittipaldi were thus at a public event in the team’s traditional colors.

This sensational statement comes in a context where Rich Energy is accused of plagiarizing the stag head logo of the bicycle brand Whyte Bikes. During the appeal process, the British judge thus ordered Rich Energy to disclose the entire financial agreement with Haas in order to assess the damage caused to the claimant.

The weekend at Silverstone for all the team leaders and communication staff has just become particularly complicated and busy. Until the next episode…
