It was in 2013 that Mark Webber’s mechanics refueled his Red Bull in 1.92 seconds. A record pit stop that allowed the Australian to step onto the third podium position. It then took 3 years for this record to be matched. It was Williams, in 2016 during the European Grand Prix, that offered Felipe Massa this lightning-fast stop. The British team was not new to such feats. Indeed, since the beginning of the 2016 season, they had always performed the fastest pit stop. An incredible achievement, especially considering that the Grove team was poor in this area the previous season.

This British Grand Prix /f1/actualite/23455-une-nouvelle-victoire-pour-hamilton-a-silverstone-mais-les-memes-sensations-que-la-premiere-fois-.html – won by Lewis Hamilton, saw Red Bull reclaim this record. Diving into the pits on the 12th lap, Pierre Gasly had to wait only 1.90 seconds for his tires to be replaced. But despite the efforts of these mechanics, the Norman still came out behind Carlos Sainz. Max Verstappen has nothing to complain about as his pit stop is the second fastest this season. The Red Bull team thus achieves the double this Sunday.

Since 2015, DHL has created the DHL Fastest Pit Stop Award to reward teams and officially measure pit stops. Champion in 2018, Red Bull Racing is well on its way to repeating this feat. With a 78-point lead over Williams in the standings for the best pit stops, the Austrian team is masterfully leading this championship.
