Mexico will be there in 2020

At the beginning of the year, the Mexican Grand Prix was set to disappear from the calendar. However, it has ultimately been saved and will retain its place for at least three years.

Like England, Italy, Spain, or Germany, the Mexican Grand Prix was a race in great danger on the calendar, and nothing at the beginning of the year suggested that Formula 1 would be celebrating in Mexico City. The Mexican government had stopped funding the Grand Prix, opting instead to focus on more American motorsports like NASCAR.

This rescue was made possible by a group of businessmen, but their identities have not been disclosed. However, we know that the event will no longer be funded by public money but by the city of Mexico. This good news was announced by Claudia Sheinbaum, the equivalent of the mayor in Mexico.

« Hello. I want to share some good news that I just received. Formula 1 is staying in Mexico City. The FIA president will be there tomorrow to sign the contract. It’s good news for the city. I also want to tell you that this is possible thanks to a group of businessmen because, this time, the city is not using public money. It’s a good thing for the city. It brings tourism, revenue, and it’s good for the country. »

The one who must be happy is undoubtedly Sergio Perez. The sponsors of the Racing Point driver had warned him that if the Mexican Grand Prix was no longer on the calendar, they would stop supporting him. The native of Guadalajara has probably saved his seat alongside Lance Stroll.

In all likelihood, it is the Hockenheim circuit that would be pushed out in 2020. After the renewal of Silverstone, and plausibly that of Monza and Barcelona, the German track is the only one without a contract for the coming years. Even though the show is good, the economic impact is very low, as is the TV audience, which has been the lowest of the season.
