Toro Rosso will indeed change its name in 2020

The name change of the former Italian team Minardi was approved following an electronic vote within the F1 commission that took place after the Russian Grand Prix. Toro Rosso will therefore be called AlphaTauri starting from the 2020 Formula 1 season.

Exit Toro Rosso, welcome AlphaTauri! After being called Minardi, then Toro Rosso (translation of Red Bull in Italian), Red Bull Racing’s B team will change its name to become AlphaTauri in 2020. This news follows statements from Helmut Marko last month indicating that Red Bull intended to change the sister team’s name to promote its clothing brand, AlphaTauri.

To approve this change, an electronic vote within the F1 commission was organized between the Russian Grand Prix and the Japanese Grand Prix. With the teams unanimously expressing their approval, Toro Rosso will indeed change its name next season.

Following this name change, the homophony between Alfa (Alfa Romeo Racing) and Alpha (AlphaTauri) is already sparking debate, as it will be necessary to distinguish between these two teams in 2020.
