F1 Esports 2019: Summary of the Third Round!

After a month of absence, the F1 Esports Pro Series returned this Wednesday evening with yet again a spectacular event.

Germany:

It was a fairly calm start. David Tonizza, the championship leader, immediately overtook Daniel Bereznay’s Alfa Romeo for third place. After two attempts in the first two laps, the Italian soon overtook Jarno Opmeer. But it was Joni Tormala, who had been quite absent until then, who created a surprise by building a 2.3-second gap by the second lap.

After a rather mediocre qualifying session, Frédérick Rasmussen started from 7th place. Seeing that progressing through the traffic would be long and complicated, he decided to attempt the undercut. A strategy that worked perfectly for the Red Bull driver, who overtook Bereznay, but more importantly his title rival, David Tonizza. A short-lived glory for the Dane. While Bereznay attempted an attack on Rasmussen, the two went wide and allowed the Italian to take their two positions.

Starting the race on medium tires, Jarno Opmeer took his yellow-banded tires up to the 12th lap. The young Dutchman subsequently demonstrated a very good pace with the soft tires to consecutively overtake Bereznay, Tonizza, and finally Tormala for the victory. Yet the Finn had managed to create a comfortable gap with his pursuers.

Belgium:

Starting from pole position, Daniel Bereznay had the unpleasant experience of being overtaken on the long Kemmel straight. The Hungarian quickly reclaimed his position on the next lap. Both employed a very smart strategy of helping each other using DRS to break away from the pack. This game continued until the 6th lap, when once again, Rasmussen successfully executed his undercut.

Further back, the battle for third place raged between Jarno Opmeer, Daniele Haddad, Bono Huis, and David Tonizza, who was further back on the track because he had stopped very early in the race.

Cleverly, Daniel Bereznay waited until the last lap to overtake Frédérik Rasmussen using the DRS and thus secure victory. A well-deserved first place for the Hungarian and Alfa Romeo who experienced a lot of bad luck, especially during the first round with a brake pedal issue and a collision.

Italy:

The Monza grid was, to say the least, very exciting. Daniel Bereznay started in pole position, but the two big surprises were Brendon Leigh, the reigning world champion who is experiencing a very challenging 2019 season, and especially the only Frenchman on the grid, Nicolas Longuet, who qualified 3rd for his first race.

From the start, the Mercedes driver lost two positions to Nicolas Longuet and David Tonizza. A difficult take-off was due to him being the only Top 6 driver on medium tires. Losing fifth place to Bono Huis the following lap, the Briton decided to pit as early as the third lap.

While leading the race for 5 laps, Daniel Bereznay was overtaken by both the French Red Bull driver and the local hero, David Tonizza. The Italian stopped on the 6th lap, two laps before his competitors, hoping to take the lead through strategy. Unfortunately for him, this tactic did not work, and it was Longuet who took the lead of the race.

It is ultimately Daniel Bereznay who wins ahead of Nicolas Longuet. It’s the second consecutive victory for the Hungarian, but it probably won’t be enough to compete for the title as he is more than 50 points behind Tonizza in the championship, with only 78 points still to claim.
