2019 Review – Lando Norris: A Promising Rookie
The end of the year is approaching, and it's time to analyze the drivers' performances in 2019. Motors Inside offers you a look back at Lando Norris's season. After joining the exclusive circle of F1 this season, the young Briton has proven to McLaren that their choice was the right one.

Following his F2 season with Carlin, finishing 2nd behind his compatriot George Russell, Lando Norris is logically designated as a driver for the 2019 season for McLaren. Armed with a solid automotive background and an impressive track record, the Englishman did not expect such a successful season at the wheel of the McLaren.
Having gone through difficult times, particularly in Belgium where his 5th position slipped through his fingers on the last lap due to engine failure, the Englishman forces himself to remember the good moments. On the verge of the top 10 in the Drivers’ standings, Lando Norris stated he is satisfied with his season and is eager to start 2020 with a machine that is continuously improving.
Arriving as a rookie this season, just like George Russell and Alexander Albon, Lando Norris quickly made his mark on the grid. Familiar with the car due to his status as a test driver in 2018, he consistently demonstrated his speed and racing intelligence throughout the season. Although he struggled with tire management in races compared to his teammate, the experience from 2019 will be beneficial for him in 2020 and for his future progression.
Despite some inconsistency in his race results, Lando Norris is having a superb first season in Formula 1. Slightly below his performance in the second half of the season compared to the start, he has nevertheless maintained a steady pace.
Comfortable with his staff and teammate, the Briton is undoubtedly at the beginning of his growth curve. Bringing 49 points to his constructor, he fully contributes to the development of the car and thus its progress throughout the season, resulting in a 4th place in the constructors’ standings. If his teammate finishes the season with 96 points, almost double that of the Englishman, his rookie status allows him to take pride in this strong performance.
In the qualification game, Lando Norris even regularly manages to dominate his experienced teammate, beating him in the qualification duels by 11-10. Fast, intelligent, and likable, Lando Norris has all the tools to continue elevating his team up the rankings.
