We discussed it a few days ago on MotorsInside, and now it’s official. Following the cancellation of the Sanya E-Prix in Formula E, the Chinese Grand Prix in Formula 1 will be postponed to a later date.

In consultation with the FIA, the Federation of Automobile and Motorcycle Sports of the People’s Republic of China, and the Shanghai Sports Administration, the promoter of the Chinese Grand Prix, Juss Sports Group, has officially requested to postpone the Grand Prix originally scheduled for April 19, 2020. The request has been granted by the FIA and the Formula 1 leadership.

Due to the Coronavirus outbreak, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern a few weeks ago.

Following this announcement, Formula 1 and the FIA did not want to take any risks regarding all team personnel and organizers, drivers, as well as the public. Therefore, they took the necessary measures by postponing this race.

Formula 1 and the FIA are working closely with local authorities and all parties involved in organizing the Grand Prix to monitor the situation and try to find a later date to hold the Grand Prix under good conditions.
