Amicable agreement by the FIA on the Ferrari engine

After months of investigation into Ferrari's engine, the FIA has finally decided to reach an agreement with the Scuderia. Without revealing the details.

At the end of last season, Red Bull requested clarification on the operation of the sensors placed in the engine. Without directly targeting Ferrari, the goal was clearly to determine if the Italian engine complied with technical regulations as it was clearly the fastest on the straight.

The FIA then issued numerous technical directives clarifying what was allowed and what was not. While Ferrari’s leaders repeatedly insisted that they had made no changes to the operation of their power unit, the advantage in top speed seemed to have disappeared starting from Austin when a new directive was published.

After two weeks of winter testing, the FIA issued a simple statement specifying that “the FIA announces that after a long investigation, it has concluded its analysis of the Scuderia Ferrari power unit. It has reached an agreement with the team. The details of this agreement will remain between the two parties.”

Such a situation is very surprising since it is hardly understandable that the body responsible for defining and enforcing technical regulations reaches an agreement with a team, which implies that the team did not actually comply with the regulations but that the officials simply failed to prove it. Otherwise, there would certainly have been sanctions that would have been made public.

The FIA simply states that it has slapped Ferrari on the wrist, forcing the team to perform the equivalent of community service by contributing to the FIA’s research on reducing CO2 emissions and alternative fuels…
