The 2008 edition of the Australian Grand Prix was chaotic, to say the least. Indeed, by the end of the race, only six cars were able to see the checkered flag. This was due to an incredible number of accidents and incidents throughout the Grand Prix, which resulted in no less than three safety cars being deployed. Lewis Hamilton won the race ahead of Nick Heidfeld and Nico Rosberg. This Grand Prix is also the fifth race with the highest recorded temperature.

Date of the first F1 race in Melbourne. A Grand Prix that Jacques Villeneuve will never forget. Qualified in pole position while making his debut, the Canadian led a large part of the race before an oil leak forced him to give up the lead to Damon Hill, his teammate at Williams. It would have been the fourth time in F1 history that a rookie won their first race.
