In light of the global spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus and following ongoing discussions with the FIA, the Bahrain International Circuit, the Bahrain Motor Federation, the Hanoi People’s Committee, and the promoters of the Vietnam Grand Prix, a decision has been made by all parties to postpone the two races that were scheduled to take place from March 20-22 in Bahrain and April 3-5 in Vietnam.

Statement from Chase Carey, Chairman of Formula 1: « The global situation regarding COVID-19 is fluid and very difficult to predict, and it is true that we are taking the time to assess the situation and make the right decisions. We are making this decision with the FIA and our promoters to ensure the safety of everyone involved in Formula 1 as well as our fans. The Bahrain Grand Prix is an exciting race on our calendar, and we look forward to being there as soon as possible. We also look forward to the inaugural Vietnam race and bringing the F1 spectacle to one of the most exciting cities in the world »

« Protect people first. » That’s the priority of Jean Todt, president of the FIA. « The postponement of the Bahrain and Vietnam Grand Prix, as with the Australian Grand Prix, was the only possible decision given all the information we currently have. » explains Todt. « We continue to rely on the contributions and advice of the World Health Organization (WHO) and governments and will work with them throughout this unpredictable period to protect fans, competitors, and the entire motorsport community. »
