The Belgian Grand Prix can take place behind closed doors
While a complete ban seemed likely, it will ultimately be behind closed doors that Spa-Francorchamps will be able to host F1 at the end of August.

Gradually, a schedule is taking shape. That’s the good news. The bad news is that more and more events will have to resign themselves to hosting F1 behind closed doors to ensure the participants’ health and safety. Two weeks ago, Hungary announced that if its Grand Prix could take place, spectators would not be able to attend.
Today, it’s the turn of the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit to do the same. But one can say it’s a lesser evil since the government had initially planned to cancel all sporting events until August 31. However, the date for the Belgian Grand Prix was scheduled for August 30…
Finally, the organizers managed to present their arguments to the political authorities. The Minister-President of Wallonia, Elio Di Rupo, and the Minister of Economy, Willy Borsus, thus welcomed the decision made by the consultation committee, expanded to include deconfinement experts, regarding the Spa-Francorchamps circuit. It will therefore be able to reopen its doors starting next Monday.
But above all, it will be able to host the F1 event in a traditional format, with practice sessions and qualifying rounds preceding the race. With this final obstacle overcome in Belgium, all that remains for Liberty Media and the FIA is to finalize the other destinations to publish a new calendar for this season.
