New features in the My Team mode of F1 2020
One of the big new features of F1 2020 will be its My Team mode, about which we finally have more information thanks to the trailer released by Codemasters.
Before this Codemasters trailer, all we knew about the My Team mode was that it would allow us to create an eleventh Formula 1 team. In addition to managing this team, we would also be one of the two drivers, the second being either a real F1 or F2 driver whom we would hire alongside us.
From now on, this problem is resolved because the English development studio has decided to bring us out of the darkness that surrounded this game mode. The first thing we notice in the trailer is the multitude of customization options available, whether it’s for our suits, gloves, or car liveries. There’s something for everyone. From sleek and realistic designs to bolder and more colorful artistic choices.
Also, the new cinematics and environments that will help you manage your team are very well-crafted. Furthermore, these places will evolve over time. At first, your simulator will be a simple bucket connected to a computer, eventually becoming an ultra high-tech simulator. The same goes for the wind tunnel, etc…
The main menu of the game mode displays your schedule for the week. It can be filled with numerous events such as driver training in media training, a showdown to promote your driver, press interviews, or even a simulator training session for one of your drivers. One page is dedicated to improving departments (aerodynamics, chassis, engine), another to research and development, one to engine component management for the season, one to finances, and finally the last one concerns the standings.
Indeed, the My Team mode is truly a management game. In addition to just creating your own Formula 1 team and driving for it, you will have to choose which engine supplier to work with, Ferrari being the most expensive but also the most powerful engine, while Honda is half the price but much less reliable than the Italian engine block.
You will also need to choose sponsors, who are fictional in this case, from a wide range. Some bring in more revenue but have higher goals, so it will be up to you to carefully choose your sponsors so as not to disappoint them or choose one that isn’t interesting enough. Managing drivers is also an important aspect at the start of your journey because you won’t have much money. It will be wiser to choose an F2 driver before being able to hire drivers from the top tier of motorsport.
