The driver underwent surgery at the hospital in Siena in the evening following his accident. However, his condition remains concerning.

As announced yesterday on Motors Inside, the Italian driver and Paralympic champion Alessandro Zanardi was involved in a serious accident during a handbike race. He was airlifted to the hospital in Siena after his accident, which occurred at 5 PM. The Santa Maria alle Scotte polyclinic indicated in a statement at 7:45 PM that the driver had indeed been admitted to their facility:
« He was involved in a car accident in the province of Siena. Zanardi was transported by the Pegaso helicopter and landed at the Siena hospital at 6:00 PM. » confirms the hospital through a press release.
« He was immediately taken care of by emergency professionals, evaluated in the trauma room, and his condition is very serious due to significant head injuries, and he is currently undergoing delicate neurosurgery. »
According to the hospital’s statement, Alessandro Zanardi is in a very serious condition with head and facial injuries. His prognosis is described by doctors as guarded. This is a prognosis that is not very favorable, linked to the progression of a disease or the severity of injuries, according to which the patient’s chances of survival in the medium to long term are compromised.
The neurosurgical and maxillofacial intervention undergone by the athlete, due to the severe head trauma reported, began shortly after 7 PM and ended shortly before 10 PM, the statement reports. Zanardi was then transferred to the intensive care unit.
