Simon Roberts takes charge of the Williams team

A few days after the departure of Claire Williams, who had been in charge of the team since 2013, it is Simon Roberts who will take the position of managing director of the English team.

Simon Roberts’ name had been circulating in the F1 paddock for a few days, and it’s now official: he will indeed take over as interim team principal starting next weekend at Mugello.

Simon Roberts stated: “I am delighted to be announced as the interim team principal of Williams during this transition period. It’s an exciting time ahead for the team, a new era for Williams, and an era in which I am thrilled to play a part. I look forward to the challenge ahead and bringing the team back to the front of the grid.”

He had joined the Grove team on June 1st to take on the role of F1 Managing Director for Williams.

Simon Roberts is a well-known figure in the paddock, having started his F1 career in 2003 by joining McLaren as Operations Director and General Manager. He then continued his career in 2009 at Force India as Chief Operating Officer. In 2010, he returned to McLaren as Operations Director and a member of the management team. In 2017, he became Chief Operations Officer and was responsible for the engineering department as well as operations within the McLaren factory.
