Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen are looking towards Indycar

It seems almost inevitable today that the two drivers will end their Formula 1 careers following the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in December. While the names of their successors have not yet been officially announced, Nikita Mazepin and Mick Schumacher are the favorites to take the Haas seats in 2021.

Now the question is whether the French driver and the Danish driver will find a new opportunity in another championship. Some options available to them include Formula E or the WEC endurance championship, particularly the Peugeot project for Romain Grosjean.

But at the start of this Grand Prix weekend in Turkey, the two Haas drivers were questioned about a possible move to Indycar.

Romain Grosjean acknowledged having been in contact with one or more Indycar teams without wanting to name them. « I think there are always opportunities » declared the French driver, even if many teams have already completed their line-up for the next season.

According to Romain Grosjean, the races are quite fun, there is a good chance of winning races or getting on podiums, however, this career choice also has its share of drawbacks.

The drawbacks are obviously that I don’t really know much about motorsport in the United States. The tracks look cool, it’s a very good championship, and I think there are more advantages than drawbacks, but obviously, the lifestyle, the place where we live, as well as the education of my children and their future need to be considered… It’s not like I’m a young person who could just hop on a plane with a backpack and not look back!

Kevin Magnussen, for his part, does not rule out the idea of following in the footsteps of his father, who also continued his career in Indycar.

« My father has been racing in America for about 20 years, I’ve spent a lot of time there and I really love being there. So I think it would suit me quite well… It’s a challenge that really excited me. »
