Carlos Sainz penalized for the Turkish Grand Prix
Carlos Sainz was penalized on the grid for the Turkish Grand Prix for impeding Sergio Perez on a flying lap during qualifying.

After a tumultuous session in which Stroll and Norris are under investigation by the stewards, Sainz has been penalized 3 grid places for obstructing Sergio Perez.
The two drivers were heard by the commissioners with a representative from both teams. The allegations against the Spaniard are as follows:
« Car 55 [Sainz] was exiting the pits as car 11 [Perez] was passing at turn 1. Car 11 caught up with car 55 at turns 2/3 and was unnecessarily hindered by car 55 at that moment and for several subsequent turns. While extraordinary track conditions clearly impacted the situation, the team’s radio communications clearly warned car 55 that car 11 was behind him. »
The McLaren driver was found guilty of the charges against him. He was penalized with a 3-place grid drop and lost one point on his license.
Qualified 13th, Saint will start from the 16th place. This allows Leclerc, Gasly, and Magnussen to gain a position on the starting grid this Sunday in Istanbul.
Sergio Perez, meanwhile, managed to qualify in a very impressive 3rd place with his Racing Point.
