Turkish Grand Prix: FIA Confirms Lance Stroll’s Pole Position

After investigation, the FIA stewards decided not to penalize Lance Stroll for a yellow flag violation. The Canadian thus retains his pole position.

After a hearing that lasted almost two hours, Lance Stroll and Racing Point managed to prove that the Canadian did not violate the regulations regarding yellow flags.

The stewards indeed judged that the young driver had “released the accelerator, stabilized during the turn, then accelerated again after the place of the incident. The times for each sector do not clearly show this slowdown because the track was drying quickly and each lap was faster than the previous one.”

If he had been found guilty, it would have been all the more ironic because the yellow flag was caused by… his teammate and rival for pole position, Sergio Perez!

It is now official and definitive: Lance Stroll will indeed start from the first position on the grid. With this first pole in F1, he erases Jacques Villeneuve from the records, the last Canadian on pole, in 1997!
