Romain Grosjean spends the post-race night in the hospital

Reassuring news about the health condition of Romain Grosjean has reached us from Bahrain. The Franco-Swiss driver is doing well but will spend the night in the hospital.

A terrible accident occurred a few hundred meters after the start of this Bahrain Grand Prix. Hitting the safety barriers at 221km/h according to data recorded by Haas, the French driver’s car broke in two in a cloud of fire. The survival cell was embedded in the barriers under the impact’s violence. The French driver experienced 53G during the deceleration, which equates to a force of 3.8 tons.

The Haas driver came out with minor injuries but is in shock. He was taken to the medical center by ambulance before being airlifted to the Bahrain military hospital for further examinations.

After a medical assessment by doctors at the Bahrain Defence Force Hospital, Romain Grosjean will remain in the hospital overnight to be treated for burns sustained on his back, feet, and hands. All X-rays performed on Grosjean came back with no fractures.

The Haas driver thus wanted to communicate directly this Sunday evening via social media by posting a video showing all his fingers wrapped in protective bands to ensure their quick healing.

His message aims to be reassuring, beyond the accident:

« I just wanted to tell you that I’m okay… sort of!

Thank you all for your messages: I wasn’t in favor of the Halo a few years ago, but I think it’s the best thing that has been introduced in Formula 1. Without it, I wouldn’t be able to talk to you. I hope I can write to you soon!
