Lewis Hamilton will not be able to reach the symbolic mark of 100 poles in Formula 1 this year. Indeed, a PCR test conducted before the Sakhir Grand Prix revealed that the British champion has been infected with Covid-19. In accordance with health protocols, Lewis Hamilton has been placed in quarantine to break the chain of contamination.

The Mercedes driver is not the first this year to have to give up his seat to another driver. Both Racing Point team drivers also had to leave their steering wheels to the opportunistic German driver Nico Hülkenberg.

If Lewis Hamilton’s non-participation in the Sakhir Grand Prix is confirmed, attention will now turn to Stoffel Vandoorne, the reserve driver for the German team. If conditions allow, the Belgian driver is expected to take over the car of the seven-time English world champion this weekend.
