The count will remain stuck at 179 Grand Prix: Romain Grosjean will not have the opportunity to participate in his last Grand Prix in F1 because there was simply not enough time for a full and complete physical recovery.

Therefore, he was forced to announce that he was returning to Switzerland and that he would not be able to compete in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix: « We tried everything with the doctor to attempt to repair my hand but the risk of racing is just too great for my recovery and my health. So we decided that I was not going to race. It’s one of the toughest decisions of my life but also one of the wisest. I will miss the team but I will continue to support them, as always. »

His recovery will therefore take place at home, alongside his wife and three children. One might think that the Frenchman closely followed the situation of another injured rider, Marc Marquez. The Spaniard tried to return very quickly after his arm fracture. But the physical demands of riding in MotoGP forced him to undergo two additional operations, and his participation in the 2021 season is still not guaranteed. Romain Grosjean certainly did not want to take the same risks as he is not at the same stage of his career.

The driver has always said he wanted to extend his career into other categories, with the possibility of winning races again. Initially, there were talks of him heading to IndyCar. But his accident might redirect his choices toward a less dangerous category.

In the meantime, Pietro Fittipaldi will have the opportunity to participate in his second F1 Grand Prix as Haas has confirmed that the Brazilian will keep his seat.
