The straight line at Silverstone renamed Hamilton in tribute to the driver
Silverstone Circuit has announced that the pit lane straight will be renamed Hamilton Straight. An unprecedented gesture in recognition of the extraordinary achievements of the British driver after his seventh title this year.

For Hamilton, tributes continue after his new world championship title in 2020 and the record equaled with Michael Schumacher. The British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC), owner of the Silverstone circuit, has decided to name the portion of the track that runs along the pit lane after Hamilton. This straight will henceforth be called “Hamilton Straight.”
Lewis Hamilton will be the first driver to have a portion of the Silverstone track named after him. The choice fell on the straight as it has witnessed Lewis’s victories at his home race – Hamilton holds the record for home GP victories with 7 wins – it has also been a gathering place for Lewis Hamilton and his fans during moments of euphoria.
David Coulthard, himself a two-time winner on this circuit and president of the BRDC, had the pleasure of informing Lewis of this news in Abu Dhabi. The lucky recipient has also been a member of the British Racing Drivers’ Club since 2006.
For the 2021 season, Hamilton might have the opportunity to celebrate another victory on the Silverstone circuit, specifically on the new “Hamilton Straight,” on July 18, 2021. Meanwhile, the British driver, whose contract with Mercedes expires at the end of the 2020 season, will first need to sign for the 2021 season.
