Ferrari confirms Ilott as test driver
If he will not be present on the grid as a main driver in 2021, the Briton Callum Ilott remains within the Ferrari fold by securing the position of test driver for the next season.

Blocked by the continuation of the current duo Räikkönen/Giovinazzi at Alfa Romeo and the promotion of Mick Schumacher at Haas, Callum Ilott had already announced before the various official confirmations that he had given up on F1 for 2021.
If he did not secure a seat in one of the ten teams on the grid, Ferrari has nevertheless renewed its confidence in the Briton by offering him the position of test driver.
« I am very happy to join Scuderia Ferrari as a test driver next year », said Ilott. « I look forward to contributing to the work done by the team on and off the track and learning a lot of things in taking on this exciting new challenge. I will give everything to do a good job and gain as much experience as possible in order to continue progressing as a driver. »
It must be said that Ilott had a very respectable Formula 2 campaign. The 22-year-old driver notably achieved 3 victories and 5 pole positions to conclude the season as vice-champion behind his fellow program driver Mick Schumacher.
Ilott therefore keeps a strong foothold in Formula 1 for the future. Present in the FDA (Ferrari Driver Academy) since 2017, he will attempt to find a seat for the 2022 season, even though the competition with Robert Shwartzman, who continues with Prema in F2, will, like this year, be very tough.
