Schumacher’s Debut Will Be “Very Difficult” According to Binotto
Making his debut in the premier category with Haas in 2021, Mick Schumacher is expected to have a challenging first season, according to the words of the Scuderia's boss.

Moving from one category to another in motorsport is no easy task, and it usually requires a phase of adaptation and learning, which can be more or less lengthy depending on the drivers.
Since his beginnings in motorsport, Mick Schumacher has operated in the following way: one season to learn, one season to win. In this way, in four years, he conquered his titles in F3 and then in F2 this year after a first mixed season.
Appointed as a regular driver within the Haas team, the son of the seven-time world champion is likely to experience another challenging first season, where learning will be crucial in a team that is losing momentum.
This is at least what Ferrari’s boss, Mattia Binotto, thinks. Closely following the career of the German, who is a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy, Binotto expects a difficult start for his young driver.
« I think it will be very difficult for him initially. If I look at his past experience, both in F2 and F3, he usually performs better in the second season rather than the first. » said the Swiss.
« I expect him to prove his speed in qualifying and in the race »
The director of the prancing horse company even dares to compare to his driver Charles Leclerc, whose operating style differs from Schumacher’s.
« Compared to Charles Leclerc, Charles is usually very fast from the first day. I think that Mick, in the way he has developed, learns a lot in the first season and even at the start of the second. Then he becomes very strong in the second half of the second season. » he continues « That’s why I think two seasons will be important for him. »
If he is lenient about his beginnings, Binotto nevertheless places great hopes in Schumacher and expects him to demonstrate his speed, both in qualifying and in the race. Moreover, it is on his good race management that the reigning Formula 2 champion will be highly anticipated.
« Already in the second year, I expect to see progress compared to the first. I really expect him to prove his speed in the particular context of F1, both in qualifying and in the race. But more than that, to prove that he is very strong in the race, and consistent in bringing the car back to a good position in the race. That’s what I expect from Mick in the next two years. » concludes Binotto.
Even before competing in his first Grand Prix, and since the beginning of his career, Mick Schumacher will logically be one of the attractions of the next Formula 1 season.
