Organizing a schedule while dealing with restrictions due to the Covid-19 crisis is a real headache for sports leaders across all disciplines.

Formula E is no exception to the rule. After having to postpone the Santiago ePrix, which was supposed to open the new season, the organizers have just unveiled what should be the first eight races of the season.

So difficult even in normal times, Alberto Longo, one of the leaders of Formula E, made a point to commend the work of his teams.

« Working on the championship calendar under normal conditions is already a task that requires months of planning and preparation, in collaboration with the many cities and stakeholders », Longo said. « This new set of dates demonstrates Formula E’s agility to respond to any situation, and the calendar remains relevant and demanding for teams and drivers. We continue to work on the latest set of races to ensure that our first season as an FIA World Championship meets expectations. »

Monaco in, Paris out, Sanya and Seoul on standby

The championship’s opening is expected to take place as planned, in Saudi Arabia, with the two rounds in Riyadh at the end of February. This should be followed by the Rome ePrix on April 10th before the series makes a stop for the first time in Valencia, at the Ricardo Tormo circuit, the usual testing track for the category.

The Monaco ePrix should see its date maintained before heading to Marrakech. Santiago managed to find a substitute date and would host the 100% electric single-seaters at the end of June.

After several discussions, particularly concerning the health crisis, the Paris ePrix will not take place this year, for the second consecutive year. However, the organizers indicate that they are already working on the return of the iconic race in season 8.

It should also be noted that the ePrix in Sanya and Seoul are also uncertain. While it is now certain that they will not take place on the agreed date (in March and May, respectively), the organizers do not rule out a postponement later in the season.

Formula E should reveal the rest of the schedule around the end of spring. Given the current circumstances, the conditional is necessary!
