Haas goes Russian
While teams can be criticized for not making significant changes to their livery from one year to the next, this is not the case at Haas, which arrives with a radically different visual identity this year!
Nikita Mazepin is in F1 and intends to make it known. That’s why his father’s company, Uralkali, occupies all the privileged spaces (engine cover, front and rear wings) while the car adopts the colors of the Russian flag.
If one can be surprised by such a choice while all Russian athletes are not allowed to display their nationality for two years due to the state doping scandal, presenter Will Buxton informed that the team had confirmed with the FIA that the use of the flag colors was indeed permitted.
Günther Steiner’s pre-season statements, on the other hand, may leave doubts about the team’s real ambitions: “It is no secret that the VF-21 will not be developed as we will focus our energy on the 2022 car, which we hope will be more balanced. We know pretty much what to expect this season in terms of competitiveness, but we must ensure to capitalize on every opportunity that arises.”
