It’s done! The last team on the 2021 grid has unveiled its car: Scuderia Ferrari has revealed the SF21. Red dominates as usual on the car, but two details are catching attention.

Some green next to the red

For this 67th Ferrari in history, the Scuderia first opted for a gradient of red. Lighter at the front and darker towards the rear wing, with this “burgundy red”, already seen last year at the Tuscan Grand Prix for the manufacturer’s 1,000th Grand Prix in F1. This color is also that of the first Ferrari race car, the 125 S, built in 1947.

But that’s not all: the “Mission Winnow” brand is making a comeback as a sponsor… in green on the engine cover. “Mission Winnow” reappears, advertising disguised for the tobacco group Philip Morris International. Appeared in 2018 on the Ferrari, the brand is however banned in several countries visited by F1.

The change is at the back

From a technical standpoint, the SF21 is an evolution of the SF1000 from 2020. Not reassuring on paper but the Scuderia has modified the rear of the car, using two development tokens.

The engineers also designed a new gearbox and a new suspension system to give a slimmer rear compared to 2020. Lagging behind last year, the engine unit has also been boosted: engine department head Enrico Gualtieri promises a gain … of a tenth of a second per lap.

The SF21 will be driven by a historically young duo: Charles Leclerc (23 years old) and his new teammate, the Spaniard Carlos Sainz (26 years old), the recruit from McLaren. Unprecedented for Ferrari since 1968! Two drivers with a heavy task: revive the team after a disastrous 2020 season, finishing in 6th place in the constructors’ standings.

First laps this Wednesday, March 10th on the Bahrain circuit, just before the pre-season testing this weekend. 100 kilometers of driving as part of a promotional day for the new Ferrari.
