Alfa Romeo welcomes Callum Ilott for 2021
Alfa Romeo has announced that it is welcoming a new reserve driver, none other than Callum Ilott, Formula 2 runner-up in 2020.

Just a few days before the Portugal Grand Prix, Alfa Romeo announced that young Formula 2 driver Callum Illot was joining the Swiss-Italian team as a reserve driver.
The British will take on this role alongside Robert Kubica. The latter will not be able to be present at every Formula 1 weekend due to other obligations. The 22-year-old driver is expected to take part in a good number of Free Practice sessions during this 2021 season, which will help him accumulate a lot of experience in the top category of motorsport. Ilott will start his new duties at this Portuguese Grand Prix where Alfa Romeo will try to score its first points of the season.
Illot seems very excited about this new opportunity: « I am very happy to join the team for this season and I would like to thank Alfa Romeo Racing ORLEN and the Ferrari Driver Academy for the trust they have placed in me. The two sessions I had with the team over the past two years have been extremely helpful in getting used to how a Formula 1 team operates, and I am confident that I can step up to my new role as a reserve driver at Alfa Romeo Racing ORLEN. I’m looking forward to getting in the car and helping the team continue its progress. »
Alfa Romeo now has many candidates for one of its seats in 2022. Young wolves like Mick Schumacher, Robert Schwartzman, and Callum Ilott, all members of the Ferrari Driver Academy, will closely monitor the performances of Antonio Giovinazzi and Kim Räikkönen and try to impress Frédéric Vasseur. The next silly season looks very exciting and could well hold some surprises.
