Qualified in 6th position, Pierre Gasly benefited like everyone else from Charles Leclerc’s retirement to start 5th after the first turn. Throughout the race, the AlphaTauri driver had to be wary of a certain Lewis Hamilton, whom he had surpassed on Saturday in Q3.

Realizing that the Briton will not be able to overtake the AlphaTauri on the track, the Mercedes driver attempted the undercut but fortunately for Gasly, the latter managed to cover his opponent and keep his position. Leaving the pits at the right time, Sebastian Vettel pulled off a heist in the pits and passed Gasly and Hamilton.

It is therefore a 6th place that comes to reward the colossal efforts of Pierre Gasly to have kept a Mercedes behind him for just under 2 hours.

« I am very happy to finish 6th. We kept Lewis behind us for 78 laps so I find myself sandwiched between a seven-time world champion and a four-time world champion so we will not be disappointed with such a performance. We will have to see what we could have done better.

With Lewis behind me, it was really intense. I couldn’t make any mistakes!

This is the third time this season that the AlphaTauri driver finishes in the points. This new entry consolidates his 9th position in the drivers’ championship, with 16 points.
