The Mercedes driver had been vehement about the Mercedes strategy, which led to him being overtaken by Sergio Perez and Sebastian Vettel at the last Grand Prix.

In Monaco, Lewis Hamilton finished in an unusual 7th place. Struggling throughout the weekend, the Briton was hoping for a perfect strategy from his team (as in Spain) to overtake Pierre Gasly, who he was chasing.

However, the strategy of the star brand was far from being as perfect as in Spain. The seven-time world champion failed to overtake the Frenchman’s AlphaTauri, and was even overtaken by Sebastian Vettel and Sergio Perez.

Furious, the Briton had criticized the strategists and Mercedes on the radio. Two weeks later, Hamilton admits that he regrets his comments and believes they should have been kept behind closed doors.

« I naturally think that in the heat of the moment, you don’t always say the best things. » acknowledged the champion.

« I think that constructive criticism is always a good thing, it’s better to say it behind closed doors and that’s what we did.

« I think there was no one to blame. I was an integral part of the decision-making process, and after looking at and analyzing things, there are things I could have said that could have had a domino effect. »

We know that we could have done better and a race does not define us. Of course, you always try to do better in the future. As I said, we win and lose as a team, so we will move forward and hope for better.
