Grosjean plays the firefighters in Detroit
This weekend, former Haas driver Romain Grosjean was racing in IndyCar on the urban circuit of Detroit. During the second race, he had to improvise as a firefighter after a fire broke out on his single-seater.
This weekend in Detroit, the two races scheduled in the streets of Michigan did not go as planned. In the first heat, the former Haas driver lost control of his single-seater and was forced to retire. In the second race, the one known as the phoenix, since his crash in Bahrain last year, acted as a firefighter after a problem with his car.
Seven months after coming out (almost) unscathed from his terrible Formula 1 accident, Romain Grosjean was once again faced with a fire. With 12 laps to go, the Frenchman’s IndyCar brakes caught fire.
The Dale Coyne Racing driver quickly jumped out of his single-seater to retrieve a fire extinguisher from the track marshals. While he had started to put out the fire coming from his brakes, the rescue team rushed to remove him from the car and place him in a safe location.
After the race, Romain Grosjean shared the scene on Twitter by adding “I take care of my cars”. Twitter took advantage of this opportunity with a tweet: “Looks like Julien Febreau’s gift was useful”, as the Canal+ commentator had offered a fire extinguisher to the driver while assisting him with the commentary of the Monaco Grand Prix. In a humorous tone, Julien Febreau replied: “What I like is useful gifts”.

After the two races in Detroit, the Frenchman is 23rd in the IndyCar standings, with 95 points. However, it should be noted that he does not participate in oval races, which therefore reduces his participation and his points chances.
