This weekend, the F1 cars are heading to the Red Bull Ring (Austria) for the Styrian Grand Prix and the Austrian Grand Prix for a second race the following week.

For these two races, Pirelli will bring two different tire allocations. This weekend, drivers will have at their disposal the C2, C3, and C4 compounds. Then, during the second meeting, the manufacturer will bring its range of the softest tires (C3, C4, and C5).

The Italian brand explains that this change is made to bring a difference between the two races, which could offer a strategy variation with its softer tires for the Austrian Grand Prix.

During this double-header at the Red Bull Ring, Pirelli opts for a one-stop race, including next week, despite the softer tires.

Once again, after last year, Austria is organizing two consecutive races, which means that teams have a lot of data on this track and recent experience on how to manage its challenges and specific tactics. However, having two different tire nominations is a first for the Red Bull Ring, so it will be interesting to see how teams will get acquainted with the C5 tires (the softest ones) for the second race weekend – and how the new selection influences strategy in order to create different opportunities compared to the previous Styrian Grand Prix,” said Pirelli’s director, Mario Isola.
