Two weeks after the official cancellation of the Singapore Grand Prix (initially scheduled from October 1st to 3rd), F1 has found an alternative to replace the race in the heart of Marina Bay. Rumors had suggested that the Circuit of the Americas, in Austin, could host two consecutive races similar to Austria. But a completely different option has been chosen.

This Friday, Istanbul Park was chosen to replace the Singapore Grand Prix. The Turkish circuit was already supposed to replace the race at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit this month of June, but the project was canceled following complications with travel restrictions, after being placed on the UK government’s red list.

The news delighted the F1 CEO, Stefano Domenicali, who declared, “We are thrilled to return to Turkey at the Istanbul Park circuit. We hope to see another fantastic race on one of the best tracks in the world.”

« We would like to thank the management of Intercity Istanbul Park and Mr. Vural Ak for his personal efforts to make this event happen. We have shown that we can continue to adapt and there is a huge interest in our sport and hope for many places to have a Grand Prix.

Last year, Istanbul Park made its big comeback in F1 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, after several years of absence. At the end of one of the craziest races of recent seasons, Lewis Hamilton had clinched his seventh world crown there, equaling Michael Schumacher’s record.
