Francophone assessment: hopes dashed for Pierre Gasly

The driver of the AlphaTauri No. 10 had shone in qualifying before a contact with Charles Leclerc forced him to retire.

Starting 6th on the grid, we could expect another strong race from the winner of the 2020 Italian Grand Prix.

Unfortunately, sandwiched between Alonso and Leclerc at the start, it was difficult to find a way through. On the way to turn 3, Gasly stays ahead of Leclerc, whose front wing of the Ferrari breaks his left rear suspension. One lap and then he is gone, Pierre limps back to the pits on three wheels.

Quite a bargain, considering that the AlphaTauri seemed quite competitive on the Red Bull Ring. Proof of this is that Yuki Tsunoda clinched 10th place.

On Canal+, Pierre Gasly spoke about this event.

« We know how important it is to score points, especially when the performance is there. We had done everything necessary up to the race. Now, we have to keep the positive and correct what needs to be done for the next weekend.

After a good race at home, at the Paul Ricard, a top 5 finish was possible for Pierre Gasly in Styria.

In a way, at home, AlphaTauri will have a second chance next week for the Austrian Grand Prix, still at the Red Bull Ring.

It will be an opportunity for Pierre Gasly to make people forget about his unfortunate retirement…and maybe even do much better than expected?
