Alex Zanardi’s wife gives news about the former driver’s health
Daniela Zanardi, the wife of former Formula 1 and IndyCar driver, revealed in an interview her husband's health condition after his handbike accident last year.

Last June, the double CART champion and Paralympic gold medalist was hit by a truck during a handbike race. The Italian had suffered significant facial injuries and had been placed in a coma.
In an interview with BMW (the team he races with), his wife Daniela detailed the driver’s health condition and specified that he was following a rehabilitation program that included multisensory and pharmacological simulations.
« I wish to tell all those people who are thinking of Alex and praying for him that he is fighting, as he has always done. We are touched and overwhelmed by the affection we have been receiving for a year from friends, fans, acquaintances, athletes, and all those connected to motorsport. This provides us with great support in managing all of this. However, we extend a special thank you to the medical staff. »
Daniela Zanardi also added that her husband’s condition is stable and that he can communicate, but he is still not able to speak.
« Alex’s condition is stable, which means he is able to do brain and body training programs. He can communicate with us but he still can’t speak. After a long coma, the vocal cords need to regain their elasticity. This is only possible with training and therapy. He still has a lot of strength in his arms and hands, and he is training intensively with the equipment, she added.
The pilot’s wife finished the interview by specifying that she did not know when her husband’s recovery would end and that no date specifying his return home had been set.
(c) It is certainly another huge challenge. It is a very long adventure, and for now, no forecast has been made as to when he will be able to return home. We are devoting all our energy to Alex’s recovery,” she concluded.
