The Hamilton Commission hands in its work for more diversity
The commission founded by the seven-time world champion has published a 183-page report to bring diversity to the world of motor sports. The report also provides 10 recommendations to facilitate change.

After looking at the end-of-season 2019 F1 photo, the Mercedes driver decided to create the Hamilton Commission, which aims to address the underrepresentation of ethnic minorities and specifically black populations in motorsport.
This Tuesday, the Commission released its report, which it created in collaboration with the Royal Academy of Engineering, which includes 10 recommendations to integrate ethnic minorities.
The 10 recommendations
May Formula 1 and other auto racing teams implement a diversity and inclusivity charter in this sport, in order to engage the industry to improve these aspects in all organizations.
Developing advice on best practices for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) inspiration and awareness activities to enable inclusive engagement with black students.
That F1 and other auto sport teams expand their offerings of learning, paid internships, and professional experience programs.
The promotion of an anti-racism charter for schools supported by teachers’ unions and other education governing bodies.
May a new innovation fund be established to combat exclusion while developing programs that address the factors contributing to the high proportion of black students being excluded from the school system.
May new approaches aimed at increasing the number of Black teachers in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and subjects leading to careers in these fields be supported.
Additional support for STEM activities will be provided to schools that are part of the black community in the United Kingdom.
That the Ministry of Education and other organizations holding education data facilitate public access to disaggregated data on student and staff characteristics at the subject level.
Creation of support programs for black students in education to allow better progression towards higher education and vocational training related to motorsport.
May the creation of scholarships for black graduates in engineering and related fields be supported in order to obtain roles related to their specialty in auto racing.
F1 will act
The CEO of F1, Stefano Domenicali, declared that he will read this report and that he will take time to reflect on the conclusions drawn from the document. The Italian added that actions should be taken in the coming days.

We will take the time to read and reflect on all of these conclusions, but we are in complete agreement on the need to increase diversity in our sport; we are taking action to address this issue and will announce new steps in the coming days, he said.
We want a sport that is representative of our immensely diverse fan community. That is why Formula 1, the FIA, and all the teams are working hard to implement our detailed project aimed at creating positive change in our sport. There is always more to be done, and this report will stimulate reflection on the next necessary steps.
