Everything had started in the best possible way for George Russell. As he had once again achieved a feat during Friday afternoon’s qualifications, with the 8th fastest time, the Briton had all the cards in his favor to continue shining during the Qualifying Sprint.

The Williams driver had managed his takeoff and had only lost one position, to the advantage of a unleashed Fernando Alonso. However, despite a good start to the race, he made a small mistake at Brooklands turn, forcing him to deviate from the trajectory. During his maneuver, his single-seater went to hit Carlos Sainz’s, who was forced to take the escape route.

The incident was noted by the stewards and was evaluated after the Sprint Qualifying. After deliberation, George Russell was found guilty and was sanctioned with a 3-place grid penalty. He will therefore start from 12th place.

The Briton reacted and believes that his penalty is severe, but he thinks he can fight for points again tomorrow.

« However, it is very unfortunate to receive a penalty, and I think it was a harsh decision. Nevertheless, we will still start in a good position to fight for points tomorrow. We had a very good race today; the race will be long, and tire management will be essential, which will be the determining factor of the result. So, let’s wait and see! », he stated.

George Russell also received a penalty point on his Super Licence, his 7th in a period of 12 months.
