Red Bull has hired a lawyer following the Verstappen/Hamilton collision
The head of Red Bull's young driver program, Helmut Marko, stated that his team had hired a lawyer to study the Verstappen/Hamilton collision, as they believe that the penalty is not significant enough.

The accident between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton during the British Grand Prix continues to make headlines. While the Briton was trying to take the lead of the race, he sent his championship rival spinning out. Deemed responsible for the Dutchman’s retirement, Hamilton was handed a 10-second penalty to serve during his pit stop.
However, for the Red Bull team, this penalty imposed on the British driver is not sufficient, and the Austrian team will do everything to try to increase it. That is why the team based in Milton Keynes has enlisted the services of a lawyer, as confirmed by Helmut Marko.
« The lawyer must examine what is possible in such a situation, within the framework of existing sports laws. We cannot let this pass. It’s really lucky that nothing serious happened to Max,” he admits to the Kronen Zeitung.
« The car and probably the engine are good for scrap. A racing suspension would be more appropriate. It was an irresponsible act on his part. Hamilton must know what the consequences are; the penalty must be harsher.
The Austrian also calls for a possible revision of the sports regulations, comparing the sanctions imposed on Sergio Perez during the Austrian GP and those received by Hamilton last weekend.
« We should probably revise the sporting regulations, including the steward system. Perez had 5 seconds for a marginal contact without anything flying off the track, and they could have given Hamilton a Drive Through as well, but they didn’t. »
Marko finished by saying that the relationship, which was already strained between the two men, will be even more so after this incident, but that they will continue to respect each other.
« Relations will certainly become even more tense now. Let’s say it wasn’t a relaxed relationship anyway. But it’s exciting for the public,” added the Austrian. “We will act in accordance with fair and sportsmanlike methods,” he stated to RTL.
While the relationship between the two men may not be very friendly, Lewis Hamilton has stated that he was open to discussion with Max Verstappen before the Hungarian Grand Prix, which will take place from 30 July to 1 August.
