This year, Formula 1 tested a new Qualifying format, inaugurated last weekend at Silverstone. It consists of a 100-kilometer race that determines the starting grid for the main race on Sunday.

This new format has won over many drivers, including Charles Leclerc. The Scuderia driver declared, after Sunday’s race, that he was looking forward to participating in the next Qualifying Sprint, which is expected to take place in Monza, on Ferrari’s home turf.

« Personally, I loved it. I love this new format because on Fridays I always get bored and I just wish it was Saturday so that things get serious. At least, this time things were serious from Friday onwards. », he confided in the F1 TV Post-Race Show.

« Overall, I liked the weekend format. It gives each day something special to look forward to, especially on Friday, where you have more to gain in qualifying than during a normal weekend. I think it makes things more exciting, for us as well as for the fans.

I am just looking forward to the next two weekends when we will have a sprint race on Saturday, he concluded.

During the British Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc finished 4th in the Sprint Qualifying and took advantage of the collision between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen to take the lead of the race, for 49 laps, before the Briton snatched first place from him a few laps before the finish line. Nevertheless, the Monegasque finished in 2nd place and achieved his first podium of the season.
