Christian Horner reveals the final cost of Verstappen’s accident damage
The boss of Red Bull Racing, Christian Horner, admitted that the bill is going to be much higher than expected after Max Verstappen's accident at Silverstone.

During the British Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen collided on the first lap. This accident sent the Dutch driver at very high speed into the tire barrier and completely destroyed his Red Bull.
Beyond an impact on the sporting front, since Verstappen saw his lead in the championship melt away, there is also a very significant financial cost. Last week, Helmut Marko, the head of Red Bull’s young driver program, announced to our colleagues at RTL that the repairs amounted to 750,000 euros.
However, this amount is incorrect, since the director of the Austrian team admitted in his regular column that the actual amount was 1.8 million dollars (equivalent to 1.5 million euros).
The other important factor is the cost containment element. This accident has cost us about 1.8 million dollars and an accident like this has massive ramifications in an era of budgetary constraint, he said.
The British driver also thanked the components present on the single-seater and on the track, which ensured the safety of his driver.
« A large part of the credit goes to the safety standards of these cars, the halo, and barrier systems, as the impact was such that it actually broke Max’s seat. The car could have flipped quite easily, which was an initial concern expressed by the first medical team that responded to the call, but fortunately, that is not the case,” he added.
